Rowan Atkinson Crashes At Goodwood

Many of you will have seen the comedian Rowan Atkinson (59) performing on TV in shows like Mr Bean and Blackadder. However, were you aware that he is also a bit of a classic car enthusiast? Well, apparently, he owns a number of classic cars including an Aston Martin DB2 and a Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe.

Rowan Atkinson is a classic car enthusiast

At the weekend he was at the Goodwood Revival and was participating in the Shelby Cup. This is a race that is specifically for people driving cars fitted with engines powered by a V8 engine. One of his cars is a Ford Falcon Sprint that he was driving in the race but it was involved in an accident with another car resulting in Mr Atkinson abandoning the race. Fortunately, he was not injured as a result of the accident.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Rowan Atkinson has been involved in an accident. You may have heard that, back in August 2011, he crashed a McClaren F1 supercar causing serious damage to the vehicle. In fact, it was virtually written off.

However, the McClaren was repaired costing the insurance company about £910,000 making it the costliest bill to repair a car at that time. It was one of only 61 such vehicles built. It has a 6.1 litre engine and is capable of powering from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.2 seconds reaching a top speed of 240 mph. Such a car is now worth several million pounds.

Apparently, Mr Atkinson drives the later vehicle a lot that is pleasing to hear. After all, so many people just buy a classic car that is never seen again on the public road system. Would you not agree it is far better to see such vehicles being driven on a regular basis?
