New Car Sales Fall In November 2025

It is quite possible that if you own a classic car then you may also possess a family saloon or hatchback car. Therefore, you may find it of interest to read the following statistics relating to the number of new cars registered here in the UK in November 2025 that were published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The motor trade industry no doubt generates an awful lot of income within the UK economy. So, you will probably agree that it is disappointing to read that the number of new cars sold in the UK in November 2025 fell by 1.6% to 151,154 from 153,610 in November last year.

Of those new cars sold in November 2025, 55,253 were to the private sector, 92,219 to the fleet sector and 3,682 to the business sector.

There were 66,180 petrol fuelled new cars sold in the above month. There were 7,168 diesel fuelled new cars sold. The rest were electric vehicles of some type. In percentage terms, the volumes of new electric cars sold all went up whereas the percentages of petrol and diesel fuelled new cars all dropped when compared with November 2024. The market share of new electric cars rose in comparison to November 2024 whereas the market share of petrol and diesel fuelled new cars fell in comparison to November 2024.

The top 5 selling new cars sold in the UK in November 2025 were: –

  2. Kia Sportage                           3,649
  3. Nissan Qashqai                       3,004
  4. Nissan Juke                             2,835
  5. Volkswagen T-ROC                2,768

However, it was pleasing to read that, on a year to date basis to November 2025, the number of new cars sold in the UK amounted to 1,874,271 that was an increase of 3.44% when compared to the same period in 2024 when 1,811,992 new cars were sold in the UK.

  4. Vauxhall Corsa                       34,241
  5. Nissan Juke                            32,447

It is going to be interesting to see what the figures will be for the whole of 2025 when they are no doubt produced in early 2026.
