Classic car owners will perhaps be interested to hear about the AA Populus survey in which over 17,000 drivers took part. In that poll, it was revealed that motorists showed greater consideration towards older vehicles when out driving.
The AA Populus survey makes interesting reading
Apparently, as many as 20% of motorists said that they would possibly give way to those people at the wheel of older or classic cars. Another interesting thing to come out of the poll was that not far off half (47%) of drivers would be more likely to keep further back from the car ahead of them if they believed it was being driven by someone more elderly.
These revelations must surely bode well for the classic car enthusiast when you consider that in our previous post we made reference to the fact that people driving classic cars are more likely to be, shall we say, “getting on in years”. Also, it must be re-assuring for the classic car owner to read that many other drivers take particular care when “in the presence’ of older cars.
Perhaps this goes someway to confirming that classic cars are highly regarded by many members of the public not only here in the UK but also in many overseas countries.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if we knew what the statistics were for vandalism caused to classic cars in comparison to modern vehicles? We would hazard a guess that, in percentage terms, the opportunist vandal is more likely to scratch a car by running a coin along the side of a modern version than they are to a classic car that is parked in a street. Having said that we would still suggest that if you do own a classic car it would not be a sensible idea to leave it parked in the street overnight – much better to pop it in the garage!
