Buy classic car insurance before planning trip abroad

While holidaying abroad most of the British motorist ends up paying thousands of pounds for the classic car insurance cover. The confused driver could not understand the parameters and levels of insurance cover required on foreign land so buy costly insurance cover.

The insured British motorists presume that they are automatically covered abroad by their provider but actually they just get automatically covered for the basic Road Traffic Accident insurance. The classic car insurance customer just get basic cover from the current policy but to get good insurance cover one can either go for European cover or third party cover options.

Previously the British drivers driving abroad used to carry green card as proof of their insurance cover on foreign land. The green card documentation is not universally applied as only some countries need green card to drive in their country like Iran, Israel, Tunisia, Turkey, Morocco, Russia, Belarus, Bosnia and Ukraine.

In rest of the countries your UK insurance cover certificate will suffice like in Bulgaria, Croatia, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland. But still even in such countries sometimes the driver faces difficulties so it is better to carry green card.

The green card indicated that you have insurance cover in UK and according to EU law the driver is legible to drive with same cover with in Europe. The green card is free so no need to worry about any extra expense for getting insured abroad. But some of the insurers confusingly call the add ons in current cover as green card cover which further confuses the car owner as green card is free but if you buy additional cover then you need to pay for it. The make of car as well as duration of holiday influence the insurance rates as long trips need enough cover while for a quick trip you can pay less to remain insured.

In foreign continent both the car as well as driver is at risk as the car might get stolen or met with an accident resulting in further embroilment in legal matters. It is better to extend your classic car insurance cover in advance so that you have complete documents before the date of travel.
