Classic Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet Barn Find Auctioned

There are not many classic cars that turn up in a barn but when one does it undoubtedly catches the attention of many classic car enthusiasts. If you had been able to attend Bonhams Collectors’ Motorcars and Automobilia Auction that took place at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum at 1pm on the 11th October 2020 you would have been able to see a 1935 Mercedes-Benz 290 Cabriolet A with Coachwork by Sindelfingen.

The above open-topped vehicle was sold in its barn-find condition for £280,551 including premium. It will no doubt be a wonderful restoration project for the new owner. It has an InLine 6 cylinder 2,867cc engine that is capable of producing 68bhp and has a 4 speed manual gearbox. Interestingly, it was purchased by someone back in 1957 for a mere 200 US dollars. It has certainly appreciated significantly in value since then. It would be great if the new owner puts the vehicle on show once it has been fully restored.

If you had an even bigger bank balance you may have considered bidding for a 1931 Bentley 8 litre Tourer coachwork by Swallow Coachbuilding Co. This classic vehicle sold for £684,933 including premium. It has a 7,983cc 6-cyclinder engine that was capable of producing 220bhp. It has a 4 speed F-Type manual gearbox. It is extremely rare as only 100 of these classic cars were built. It originally had a chassis price of £1,850 so has certainly increased significantly in value over the years. It really does look a stunning classic car and will no doubt catch the attention of many a passer by when it is taken out on the road.

Another open-topped classic sports car that was sold at the above auction was a 1934 Lagonda M45 T8 Tourer. It achieved a sale price of £138,689 including premium. It had been in the same family ownership since 1967 that we are sure you will agree is a rare occurrence these days. It has an OHVQ 6 cylinder 4,453cc engine capable of producing 140bhp and a 4 speed manual gearbox. It appears to be able to seat 4 people in its red leather interior.

It is to be hoped that the new owners of the above classic cars have arranged quality classic car insurance.
