Sir Michael Caine’s First Car To Be Auctioned

Many of you will have seen one or more films that the well-known Sir Michael Caine has starred in.       He is an extremely talented and versatile actor covering decades.

Well, you may be interested to read that his very first car that he purchased back in 1968 is shortly to come up for auction. H & H Classics is to auction the 1968 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Two Door Drophead Coupe at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire on the 13th March 2023.

It has an estimated sale price of between £100,000 to £150,000. Perhaps this estimate takes into account the fact that the vehicle was once owned by an A list celebrity. It probably cost when new around £10,500 back in 1968.

It is interesting that when he bought the classic car he did not have a full driving license so he needed a chauffer to ferry him around in it.

In 1970, Sir Michael Caine sold the car to Jack Leach who owned the renowned Gasworks Restaurant that was frequented by some well know individuals including Sir Michael Caine. It remained in the possession of Jack Leach until he passed away in 2013. We are sure that you will agree, that is an awful long time to own a vehicle for.

In 2018, the car was purchased by its present vendor who has reportedly spent in the region of £100,000 in restoring the vehicle.

The delightful luxury car has magnolia leather upholstery with black coachwork. An interesting thing about the interior is that only the front passenger seat has a headrest presumably on the basis that one was not needed for the chauffer.

We suspect that this classic car will attract a great deal of interest when it comes up for auction so if you are interested then we suggest you be one of the first to express your interest.

Needless to say, we will do all that we can to assist in insuring the classic car should you wish us to do so.
